We at the Macon Mosquito Abatement District would like to express our continued commitment to the health and safety of both our residents and our employees. With that in mind we would like to share some information related to mosquito or mosquito abatement and Covid-19.
Firstly, we are maintaining social distancing protocols for our employees to reduce the chance of our employees contracting or spreading the virus. In order to do this, we will be starting the season with a reduced crew which will temporarily limit our ability to inspect sites and treat them. These precautions will allow us to continue our work to monitor and abate mosquitoes, including those that transmit West Nile Virus, which are our primary concern and focus.
Second, MOSQUITOES CANNOT TRANSMIT COVID-19.
Mosquitoes and Ticks cannot transmit all viruses. A special, highly refined, relationship is required where the virus is able to replicate inside the mosquito or tick. There is no information to suggest that Covid-19 or similar viruses can be spread by mosquitoes or ticks.
Stay safe and don’t forget to wash your hands!
