Macon Mosquito Abatement District
We are a local government agency formed under the Mosquito Abatement Act of the State of Illinois. The Macon Mosquito Abatement District is a property-tax supported special district formed to suppress populations of mosquitoes and decrease the probability of mosquito-borne illness.
Our program implements routine surveillance and larvicide control of mosquito sources, supported by historical data and ongoing inspection of the District. Pre-treatment and post-treatment inspections are conducted to assess the control provided by the biorational larvicides (or biologically specific larvicides) are used.

This week is Mosquito Control Awareness Week. You can find an informative display at the Decatur Public Library all week aimed to help you remember the three D's: Drain, Dress, and Defend. DRAIN any standing water in your back yard that could be potential breeding sources for mosquitoes. DRESS in long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself during active biting times between DUSK AND DAWN.
